CarrierPony is built and maintained by NorseHorse, a solo indie developer — the same hands behind PGPony, ScrubPony, BurnPony, AgePony, QuorumPony, and RelayPony.
Why CarrierPony exists
Most messengers make you trade something for convenience: a phone number, an address book upload, an account in someone's database. CarrierPony starts from the other end. Your identity is a keypair on your phone. Pairing is between two people, not two accounts. And the relay in the middle is designed to know as little as a relay can possibly know — it moves sealed envelopes, and that's the whole job.
The rules of the family
Every app in the Pony family follows the same rules:
- No accounts. The tools work the moment you open them.
- No tracking. No analytics, no telemetry, no ad IDs, on the apps or the websites.
- Open cores. The cryptography is public under Apache-2.0, so the important part can be read and checked. CarrierPony's engine is PGPonyCore.
Built on proven ground
CarrierPony didn't invent its own cryptography. It speaks OpenPGP — a standard with decades of scrutiny — using modern Ed25519 and Curve25519 keys through PGPonyCore, the engine already shipping in PGPony and interoperable with GnuPG. New app, old bones. That's on purpose.
