Terms of Use.

Plain terms for a plain deal: the app is free, use it lawfully, and understand what it does and doesn't promise.

Last updated: July 4, 2026

The agreement

By using the CarrierPony app or this website, you agree to these terms. CarrierPony is developed and operated by NorseHorse, an independent developer ("the developer").

The service

CarrierPony provides end-to-end encrypted messaging and file transfer between paired devices, delivered through a store-and-forward relay. The app is currently free of charge.

Acceptable use

Use CarrierPony only for lawful purposes. Do not use it to harass, threaten, or defraud others, to distribute unlawful content, or to interfere with the relay service. The app includes report and block features; abuse of other users may result in envelopes from a reported identity no longer being relayed.

Your keys, your responsibility

Your identity is a cryptographic keypair held on your device. If you lose the device and have no backup, your identity and message history cannot be recovered by anyone — including the developer. That is the design. Make an encrypted backup and keep your passphrase safe.

No warranty

CarrierPony is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied. The developer does not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the developer is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from use of the app or website.

The relay

The relay exists to deliver sealed envelopes and may be maintained, rate-limited, or evolved to keep the service healthy. Envelopes are transient and are not archived.

Open-source components

CarrierPony's cryptography is built on PGPonyCore, licensed under Apache-2.0. Its license terms govern that code; these terms govern the app and service.

Changes

These terms may be updated as the app evolves; updates appear on this page with a new date. Continued use after an update constitutes acceptance.
